There are six candidates for obtaining this year the DNSEP / mention conservation of cultural property, presenting varied works of study, research and production, in accordance with the ESAA training cursus identity and its special attention to the fields of contemporary art and ethnographic objects.

Since Marcel Duchamp and his readymades, the critical approach of many contemporary productions requires to pay attention to their contextual conditions of functioning and use. The various ways of activation and interaction that are involved in these conditions lead to reconceive their ontology and the very question of the “artwork” as such. In addition, the cultural property valuing has the effect of depriving the artifacts that are concerned of their variable cultural dimension in favor of an exclusive vision.
This situation obliges the conservator to take into account the necessary contribution of special fields of inquiry at the cross road of social sciences and conservation. Beyond the only material consideration of an Heritage artifact, the prospective nature of the work carried out in M2 opens onto an investigation of the conditions of its original, transitory, actual and future features, as they participate of its identity and its existence.
How to avoid the pitfalls of reification by providing solutions in relation with an experience of the cultural property both more cognitive and pragmatic ? The works of this year give to such a question its full scope by giving it a meaningful contribution.
